The typeface consists of three weights with true italics plus a ‘glow’ version with shiny bits. It’s a very personal project which reflects a bit of my passion for the 70s/80s atmosphere and things like synthesizers, Letraset, disco & funk vinyl covers and so on. It’s a very flexible family, ready to solve difficult design briefs with its broad range of uses, from text to display. Below is the A1 poster we just designed at Fontsmith for the exhibitions.

FS Jack is a workhorse but also very ownable and distinctive display/text sans-serif, available in a good range of weights which were carefully crafted by Jason and me in the last 2 years. Since then, the family became quite popular mainly due to a selection in the Bienal Letras Latinas in 2006. I have been receiving loads of e-mails in the last years asking where is the font available, and the sad truth is, it isn’t released anywhere. But the good news is, I’ve been reworking the family on the past three years, and finally, some hope arises: it will be used as the corporate typeface for the upcoming Bienal Tipos Latinos in 2010.

It is a joint Latin-Tamil typeface, initially designed with newspapers in mind, but suitable to other media such as magazines, small publications and so on.

The typeface earned three recognitions in 2008: one of the TDC prizes at Tokyo TDC 2008 (the typeface creation was presented in Tokyo in April 2008 during the TDC Day Forum); one of the eight ‘Constancia de Excelencia” in Tipos Latinos 2008; and it was also a finalist in the European Design Awards 2008.

The typeface is being adjusted very slowly due to the lack of free time to work on it, but will hopefully reach the market at some point in the future.

Therefore, much of the design and the functionality of this page comes from Redfield.
